To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

The Chronicle reporter spent a little bit of time talking about who the Toon are looking at bringing in, as the start of the season edges closer.

One of the main talking points on transfers was strikers and potential loan options. This saw Michy Batshuayi mentioned as a potential target for Newcastle United.

It seems as if Newcastle have been considering a move for Batshuayi, but they might have to wait until later in the window to potentially sign the Belgian.

He said: “I think they’ve got to make that loan thing [market] work.

“I think there’s potential there. Rhian Brewster is another one who’s been looked at, Michy Batshuayi – I’d heard that there’s been some sort of [talks] with that one as well.

“So, we will see. The problem with the loan situation is you’re always waiting until later on in the close season.

“I think there will be a lot of clubs [that] may be reticent to loan out their players because you’re going to need a big squad next season.”

Do you think Batshuayi would be a good signing?

Yes, he would do a job

No, we could do better

No, we could do better

TIF Thoughts…

The 26-year-old made 24 appearances for Chelsea in the 2019/20 season in which he scored six goals in all competitions; however, in the league, he came on as a substitute on 15 occasions and scored just one goal.

The season before, Batshuayi spent the second half of the season on loan at Crystal Palace, and he scored five league goals in 11 appearances and started nine matches.

So, he has proven that he can score goals in the Premier League if he starts games.

Newcastle’s centre forwards, between them, scored six league goals last season, so if they did manage to get Batshuayi and he reproduced his 2018/19 form from his spell at Palace, then the Toon could be getting a reliable goalscorer.

However, if Douglas is to be believed, Newcastle might not be able to sign him until later in the window because that is the way the loan market works.
