Liam Kennedy has been on a recent edition of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith, and he has been talking about transfers and players that Newcastle United have been linked with.

One of the players who came up in this discussion was Odsonne Edouard.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to the Toon and also many other Premier League clubs; however, as it stands, he remains a Celtic player.

Kennedy was full of praise for the Celtic striker after Wraith suggested the likes of Edouard, Alfredo Morelos, and Chris Wood as potential targets for the Toon.

It seems that Kennedy is a big fan of Edouard, and he would love to see Newcastle sign him.

He said: “Edouard at Celtic is the one that really stands out in that little pack, I think he’s a fantastic player.

“We’ve seen the lad [Moussa] Dembele go back to France and really tear it up there at Lyon and the reports I hear about Edouard are that he’s so much better than Dembele.”

Kennedy then used another section of the podcast to heap more praise on the 22-year-old. He said:

“If you could bring him in, I think he’d be a fantastic signing; it’s a risk, but the reports I’ve heard from fellow professionals in Scotland – he’s a fantastic player, he’d be a player I’d really, really want to see come in.”

Do you think Newcastle have any hope of signing Edouard?

TIF Thoughts…

Edouard has scored four goals in all competitions for Celtic in the 2020/21 season, while last season, he bagged 27 in 45 games.

It has been claimed that Celtic value Edouard at £40m, but the Toon’s transfer budget is only £35m plus player sales, so it doesn’t look like they can afford Edouard in this window, although Transfermarkt states he is only valued at £13.5m, so perhaps some shrewd negotiating would be required from the Toon.

It remains to be seen what happens, but it is clear that Kennedy is a fan of the Celtic man and would like to see him on Tyneside.
