To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

The former Newcastle player spent a bit of time discussing Mike Ashley’s role in the failed takeover attempt after Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium walked away from a deal to buy the club from him last week – and it seems as if Clark can see some good news from this failed takeover.

He said: “He’s prepared to sell and, in all fairness to Mike, this deal hasn’t broken down because of him.

“This deal, it’s gone beyond him; he took the non-refundable deposit, the sale had been agreed, all the figures had been done, there was no obstacles that side.”

Clark then went on to state the positives that he believes can be taken from this situation.

“Certainly, I don’t think this breakdown was anything to do with Mike Ashley, to be fair to him, so I think that’s a real positive that he has shown that for the right offer, he’s prepared to let the club go.”

TIF Thoughts…

Since the deal was withdrawn last week, the Reuben brothers, Staveley, and PIF have all given indications that they are keen to resurrect this deal, so it will be interesting to see if that happens or not.

However, if that doesn’t happen, there is Henry Mauriss, who now has a clear run at buying the club and has been told to pay a deposit and prove that he has the funds.

There is also reported interest from James Pallotta, who has recently sold his stake in Roma and has been rumoured to be interested in reinvesting that money in the Toon, so even though this Staveley deal has collapsed for now, there might still be a takeover of Newcastle.
