Lee Clark has been on a recent episode of NUFC Matters with Steve Wraith, talking about many topics relating to Newcastle United.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

One of the areas he discussed was his player of the season.

The former Toon player suggested that Martin Dubravka was the Magpies’ star man last season, but had honourable mentions for Jonjo Shelvey and Allan Saint-Maximin.

However, while he was discussing Saint-Maximin, he revealed what concerns him about the Frenchman.

He said: “Exciting player, love him; is he starting to get a bit frustrated, because he’s probably the one that we look to all the time rather than have other potential match-winners as well with him?

“That’s the worry for me, including this transfer window; he’ll have caught lots of people’s attention, the way he’s played, he’s showed a great work ethic as well.”

So, it looks as if Clark is worried that Newcastle might lose Saint-Maximin in this window.

Are you worried Saint-Maximin will leave?

TIF Thoughts…

The 23-year-old was the Toon’s best performer in the league with an average rating of 7.29/10, while he scored four goals and provided four assists in all competitions.

Newcastle signed Saint-Maximin for £16.5m and is now worth £25.2m according to Transfermarkt, so the Toon could make a profit on him.

However, after the impact he had in the 2019/20 season, we doubt that is something they would want to do, and Steve Bruce has insisted that he is not for sale.

However, there is interest from the likes of PSG and Tottenham Hotspur, and given Newcastle’s budget has been slashed to £35m plus player sales, it may be that the Toon are tempted to sell him to raise funds.

We will have to see what transpires, but Clark could have every right to be worried about Saint-Maximin.
