To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

Caulkin tried to provide a view on what is happening after Amanda Staveley’s consortium withdrew their bid to buy the Toon from Mike Ashley last week.

The Athletic reporter spent a bit of time talking about the Reuben brothers and what they planned, as well as other topics relating to the failed takeover.

Here is what he had to say on the Reuben brothers and if they want to buy the club outright:

“As we know, they are [Reuben brothers] immensely wealthy, but that’s just not part of the equation at the minute, because they are committed to this deal, they are committed to this group and the way it’s been formulated and so that’s just not something that’s on the table.”

So, despite the Reuben brothers having an estimated net worth of around £18bn, at the moment, buying Newcastle on their own is not something that they are interested in.

Do you agree with the Reuben brothers' stance?

Yes, they still want to be part of a takeover, so that's fine

No, they should buy us

No, they should buy us

TIF Thoughts…

It appears that the Reuben brothers remain committed to the Staveley group and reaffirmed that commitment in a statement released via Martin Cruddace.

This follows on from Staveley’s commitment to the takeover and also indications that PIF still want to buy Newcastle, so despite them all withdrawing this offer, the deal might not be dead because all parties in this consortium indicated they are still interested in buying Newcastle.

In the statement released on behalf of the Reuben brothers, they confirmed that they planned to bring significant investment into the North East, so it would be a shame if this deal really is dead because it could have helped the region.

This could explain why the chief executive of Newcastle City Council has asked for an explanation from the Premier League and wants to come to some sort of compromise that would allow the takeover to happen.

It will be interesting to see if this forces the Premier League to do anything.
