To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

The Athletic reporter spent a lot of time talking about what went wrong for the proposed takeover of Newcastle and why Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium ended up pulling out of the deal.

One of the topics discussed was some of the other Premier League clubs’ opposition to the takeover, where Caulkin suggested that the potential buyers were ‘very disappointed’ over the amount of opposition from other Premier League clubs the bid had received.

He said: “One of the other things that the consortium are very disappointed about is the fact that in particular, a couple of other clubs were briefing very, very heavily against them.

“Those clubs have been named elsewhere – they’ve been reported to be Spurs and Liverpool, and that’s my understanding as well.”

So, it seems as if the consortium were disappointed with the opposition to their takeover from fellow Premier League sides.

Are you surprised other clubs opposed this takeover?

No, they felt threatened

TIF Thoughts…

Staveley talked about the fact that other Premier League clubs were against this, and it seems as if Liverpool and Tottenham were two of those who didn’t want this to happen.

The potential wealth of Newcastle’s proposed majority owners PIF would have dwarfed that of the Reds and Spurs, so maybe that was why they were against this takeover.

At first, this claim initially came from Staveley, but now Caulkin also believes that these clubs were against the takeover (17:01), and given that the consortium have walked away, then they have possibly got what they wanted.
