To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

NUFC 360 shared details of a report from DerbyshireLive, which states that according to TEAMtalk, Derby County are interested in taking the 25-year-old on loan from the Toon next season and that they are one of several clubs, including Middlesbrough, who want to sign the winger.

This has drawn a reaction from these Newcastle fans, who want him sold.

Should Newcastle just sell Murphy?

Murphy was signed by the Toon in the summer of 2017 for a reported £12m from Norwich City; however, he has struggled for game time and spent the 2019/20 season out on loan with Sheffield Wednesday.

Before that, he had only made 41 appearances for Newcastle, in which he scored one goal and provided three assists.

In the 2018/19 season, Murphy made just nine league appearances for Newcastle and was then sent out on loan to West Bromwich Albion in last January – with one fan appearing to slate former Toon boss Rafael Benitez for shipping the winger out during his final season at St. James’ Park, having not given Murphy much of an extended run in the first team following his arrival.

This post about Murphy continued to draw the attention of these Toon fans.

During the 2019/20 season with the Owls, the 25-year-old, who is valued at £3.15m by Transfermarkt, scored nine goals and provided six assists, so it is no wonder that many clubs are sniffing around.

However, considering the Toon only have a budget of £35m plus player sales, we can see why many of their fans want Murphy to be sold in order to raise those funds.

What must be considered with this, though, is Murphy’s paltry market value, so it is unclear how much money the Toon would likely make from a sale.
