A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from Keith Downie that contains a transfer update on the Toon.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

The Sky Sports reporter claimed that Newcastle are interested in a deal for Rob Holding, but it is still some way off and that they have not made an approach for FC Porto striker Moussa Marega.

This came after David Ornstein claimed that Holding was set to join Newcastle on loan, and a report from Portugal that claimed the Toon were preparing a bid for Marega.

This Downie post drew the attention of many Toon fans who mocked this news.

Do you believe Downie's tweet?

Newcastle have so far added Jeff Hendrick and Mark Gillespie to their squad but have Dwight Gayle out injured for months, and there are less than two weeks to go before the season starts.

It was reported that Holding was going to be joining the Toon, which would add to the six players that Newcastle have who are natural centre-backs, but Downie seems to think that the deal for Holding is quite far away.

However, arguably the most important deal would be the one for Marega as with Gayle injured, the Toon’s remaining forward options scored two Premier League goals between them last season.

They were both from Joelinton, who has not taken part in the club’s first two pre-season friendlies.

This post from Downie continued to attract Newcastle fans, who just want some good news.

Marega has scored 36 goals in the past two seasons, including 23 league goals, so you would think he could be a good addition; however, Downie believes no bid has arrived from the Toon for the 29-year-old.

Since then, his agent has confirmed that there is interest from Premier League clubs and The Northern Echo’s Scott Wilson has reported that Newcastle have made a bid for Marega, so this deal could be one to keep an eye on.

Meanwhile, Italian journalist Nicolo Schira has also reported that the Holding deal is done, so it remains to be seen exactly how Newcastle’s transfer business this summer will shape up.

We will just have to see what happens.
