A lot of Newcastle United fans have replied to a post from Keith Downie after he was asked why Sky Sports aren’t covering the petition calling for an independent review into why the proposed takeover of the Toon collapsed.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

Last week, it was announced that Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium had withdrawn its offer to buy Newcastle.

Since then, a petition has been launched calling for an independent investigation.

So far, it has over 80,000 signatures and the number continues to grow, which led to one Toon fan asking why Sky Sports had not covered it yet.

This drew a response from Downie, who claimed in another tweet that he has been on annual leave, and there will be a story on it within in 24 hours.

This made these Newcastle fans react, and they weren’t happy with the process or Sky Sports.

One fan even claimed that he had cancelled his Sky Sports subscription.

Do you think Sky should have covered this sooner?

Yes, but they don't care

No, not Keith's fault if he is off

As well as this petition, numerous MPs have supported the movement.

The chief executive of Newcastle City Council has also called for a compromise to be reached that would allow the takeover to go through.

However, despite all of this, the Premier League has still not said anything either in response to the fans or to Staveley’s claims that the deal’s failure was down to the Premier League.

This post also led to some Newcastle fans thanking Downie.

The pressure is growing on the Premier League to offer some sort of response, but we are now a week on from the Staveley group withdrawing their bid, and the PL is yet to even acknowledge what has happened.

We feel that they really owe an explanation to the fans and it would also allow them to offer their side of the story.
