Chris Waugh has been speaking on the latest edition of The Athletic’s Pod On The Tyne, and he has been talking about the failed takeover of Newcastle United.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

This was a special episode as Waugh answered questions from Toon fans, and many of them were on the failed takeover.

Waugh provided his view on how he sees the deal progressing after Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium withdrew their bid on 30th July.

Here is what he had to say:

“The takeover saga rumbles on, the takeover which has been withdrawn in theory, but at the same time, the buyers remain committed if it can go ahead.

“The seller remains committed, the vast majority of the fanbase are behind this and yet it’s the takeover that hasn’t happened and may not happen.

“I still struggle to see the pathway forward at this moment in time.”

So, it seems as if Waugh, at the moment, does not see how this takeover can be revived.

Do you agree with Waugh?

No, he should be more confident

TIF Thoughts…

These comments from Waugh follow on from a claim that Mike Ashley is personally trying to resolve the situation and is ‘100% committed’ to doing so.

There have also been claims that he is preparing legal action should the Premier League prevent him from selling the club.

However, we can see Waugh’s view because the Premier League didn’t make a decision on the takeover last time, and despite growing pressure, they have still not commented on why the Staveley deal collapsed, so what is to stop them from doing the same?

Of course, that could be where the legal action comes in, but it will be intriguing to see what will happen and if something changes that might make Waugh think more positively.
