Alex Hurst, the chair of Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust, has recently been talking about Amanda Staveley and how she views the club.

Hurst was recently present as a guest on the latest episode of the Football Today podcast and the panel discussed many issues surrounding Newcastle United. Hurst provided some detail into a meeting that he was involved in with other members of the Newcastle United Supporters’ Trust and he revealed that Staveley was the main topic of conversation.

To get things started a rather easy one. Who scored Newcastle's first league goal of the season?

Staveley was leading the charge for Newcastle’s Saudi takeover, but the deal fell through as a commercial agreement between Saudi Public Investment Fund and Mike Ashley collapsed.

Hurst said that Staveley feels that the club’s supporters have a role to play in potentially seeking some answers from the Premier League about how the takeover fell through.

He said: “So the board met, we basically talked about my conversation with Amanda Staveley, what she had relayed [in] her communication with me and the stuff that she’s done with The Athletic – George Caulkin, in particular. It has been more transparent and communicative than the last 13 years under Mike Ashley. We were really excited about that perspective, because she seemed to grasp the importance of supporters and kind of understood the region and the football club, even though she’s not from here.

Do you think Amanda Staveley will work something out?

I don't think so

I don't think so

She surely will

She surely will

“So when I spoke to the Supporters’ Trust, we said [I] spoke to Amanda Staveley, she has filled me in a little bit on what’s happened, and she thinks supporters have got a role to play. She is still very passionate about this football club and buying it. If there’s any small thing that we can do to try and get her, or anyone else, some answers from the Premier League, we’re going to have to try and do it, basically. And through the Football Supporters’ Association, we’ve put that request in to try and get some answers.”

TIF Thoughts…

Newcastle United fans have launched a petition that demands an independent investigation into the failed takeover process of the Magpies. The latest numbers suggest that over 94,000 people have already signed this petition.

Hurst’s comments suggest that even Staveley is keen on making sure that this issue gets resolved and some solution is reached. So fans can only hope that the petition leads to something concrete soon.
