After it was recently reported in The Times that Portuguese side Benfica are one of the clubs interested in signing Pereira this summer, Ogden shared his thoughts on the matter.

He said: “I think that Pereira will be one of the players that leaves United this summer. There’s a few players that are heading out of the exit door, and I think that in recent months, he’s just faded from the first-team picture. He’s had his chance and I don’t think he’s grasped it, so if he can get a move to Benfica, that’d be a fantastic move; a big club, Champions League club, and I think he’d do well in Portugal.

“I think that he’s had a couple of loan spells in Spain, he’s not cut out for the Premier League, Pereira, but I think if he went to Benfica, he would do a great job in Portugal. I think it’d be a good move for all parties.”

Since making his senior debut for the Manchester club back in 2014, the 24-year-old has gone on to make a total of 75 appearances for United but has only managed to score four goals and provide five assists along the way.

The 2019/20 Premier League season saw the midfielder make 25 league appearances for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in which he earned himself a disappointing season rating of 6.55/10.

TIF Thoughts…

With Pereira only making two league appearances for United since the league restarted back in June, Ogden was probably right in saying that the midfielder seems to have faded away from the first-team at United.

It will be interesting to see if United cut their ties with Pereira this summer and he gets a move to Benfica or anywhere he may be able to get some more playing time.
