Manchester United-oriented journalist Andy Mitten has made a claim about the club’s chase of Jadon Sancho and how the deal is shaping up.

Mitten was recently a guest on the latest episode of Off The Ball’s The Football Show podcast. He discussed many things involving the club’s transfer intentions this summer. One thing that he was asked about was the club’s progress in their potential deal for Dortmund’s Sancho.

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

Fabrizio Romano recently tweeted about Sancho, saying that United and Dortmund are in talks for the Englishman and personal terms between the Red Devils and Sancho have been agreed. BBC Sport had reported that Dortmund have put up a deadline of 10th August for United to agree a deal with them.

When talking about Sancho, Mitten gave some updates about United’s chase of the 20-year-old. Mitten believes that the idea of the 10th August deadline is by no means a concrete one from Dortmund, while the winger’s valuation is the current stumbling block in negotiations.

He said: “I keep reading about this August 10th deadline put in by Dortmund. Well, this is arbitrary. The transfer window runs until October. I’d rather any deals were done sooner. It drives me mad to be honest, as a journalist reporting on transfers, because people go absolutely crazy when you say that there are talks between a club and then it breaks down because they feel emotional that they’ve been let down because they’ve invested into the idea of a player joining their club, but transfers break down all of the time.

Are you confident that United will sign Sancho this summer?

Yes, we'll sign him

No, we'll miss out

“I’m not saying this is going to break down at all. I think the will is there from United. I think Dortmund are indicating that they do want to sell. They’re just miles apart on evaluations at the moment.”

TIF Thoughts…

In the 2019/20 season, Sancho played 32 games in the Bundesliga for Dortmund, racking up a tally of 17 goals and as many assists. Meanwhile, in the Champions League, the Englishman directly contributed to four goals in a total of eight appearances for the German giants (as per Transfermarkt).

This shows the quality that Sancho has in terms of contributing to goals on a regular basis. United see him as a ‘top’ target this summer, as per BBC Sport. Going by his 2019/20 numbers, he could add a lot of goal creation and goalscoring to the team, so fans will surely be hoping that United can avoid an impasse as supposed talks over Sancho’s fee continue.
