According to recent reports, Chelsea are interested in a summer move for Manchester City centre-back John Stones.
The report by the Daily Mirror claims that Frank Lampard’s side are hoping to secure the England international on a cut-price deal, due to the arrival of Nathan Ake, who has pushed Stones further down the City pecking order.
It is said that Chelsea will offer £20 million for the 26-year-old, which is considerably less than the £50.04 million City paid for the defender back in 2016 (as per Transfermarkt).
In the time since, Stones has gone on to make 133 appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing two assists, as well as winning two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and three League Cups.
However, last season, the defender found himself injured or just simply unselected by Pep Guardiola, making just 16 Premier League appearances.
And, with Guardiola stating earlier in the season that he would like to bring in two new centre-backs over the summer transfer window, it would appear that the writing is very much on the wall for Stones at City.
However, with Chelsea still managing to finish fourth in last season’s Premier League despite conceding a quite staggering 54 goals, should Stones make the move from Manchester to London, he will have the chance to prove himself towards the top end of the Premier League table, as well as in the Champions League.
TIF Thoughts…
As previously mentioned, considering that Guardiola seems to have gone off the £27 million-rated Stones this year, a move to Chelsea may be best for everyone involved.
