Alex Stewart discussed Manchester City on a recent edition of Tifo Football’s Sensible Transfers show.
During the episode, the football writer suggested Alexander Isak is somebody that City should be looking at as a long-term replacement for Sergio Aguero. The Sweden international currently plays his football for Real Sociedad in Spain and during the 2019/20 campaign, he made 37 La Liga appearances, scoring nine goals and providing one assist (as per Transfermarkt).
The 20-year-old forward’s career began at AIK and in 2017 he moved to Borussia Dortmund. The German club loaned the player out for a short spell to Willem II before he moved permanently to San Sebastian in a deal reportedly worth £5.85m (as per Transfermarkt).
When discussing who the Manchester club should look at as a striking option for the future, here is what Stewart had to say on the podcast: “Alexander Isak, who’s at Real Sociedad, who had a high profile move to Borussia Dortmund when I think he was like maybe 17 – that didn’t quite work out; he’s moved on to Sociedad. He’s a really nice all-round player, he’s still very, very young, I think he offers a little bit more in build-up than Aguero does.
“He’s not quite the kind of predatory striker yet, but he has an interesting skill set that would be slightly different to what City have at the moment and he’s a player, I think, with very high potential.”
Do you think it is time City started preparing for life after Aguero?

TIF Thoughts…
According to WhoScored, Isak’s average performance rating in La Liga last season was an underwhelming 6.41/10. However, despite that, given his age and the praise he has received from Stewart, there is an argument that he may be somebody worth taking a gamble on.
