One topic of conversation on the recent episode, was Manchester City’s likely signing of Valencia winger Ferran Torres. The Citizens were confirmed to be in talks with the La Liga side over the transfer of the 20-year-old, with the suggestion that Pep Guardiola’s side would pay around £20.87 million for the youngster (per BBC).

Man City fan? We bet you can't get 100% on this Yaya Toure quiz. We'll start you off with an easy one... Who did Yaya Toure sign for City from back in 2010?

Here’s what Gibson had to say about Manchester City’s potential signing of Torres:

“I think first and foremost, he represents value for money. I think this is his buyout clause. For a 20-year-old who only had a year left on his contract, it’s been an epic failure by them [Valencia] not to tie him down to a longer deal. So the fact he’s only got one year left on his contract, it’s quite an interesting fee, because he’s worth at least double that.

“Of course, in La Liga, every player has a buyout clause, and Manchester City are fully aware of that, I believe there’s add-ons, so I think that’s a gesture from Manchester City in terms of a sporting gesture that they know they’re getting a bargain.”

TIF Thoughts…

Gibson certainly feels that Manchester City are getting a bargain with the potential signing of Torres, and considering that he is currently valued at £40.5 million by Transfermarkt, it is easy to see why. The Citizens are perhaps in need of a winger, following Leroy Sane’s move to Bayern Munich last month, and it certainly seems as if Gibson rates the 20-year-old highly.

Do you think Torres will be a good signing for City?

In the most recent La Liga season, the Spanish U-21s international contributed four goals and five assists in 34 top-flight appearances, averaging a solid 6.72 rating (per Whoscored). However, in a side as creative as Manchester City, perhaps we will see him significantly improve on those statistics next season, should he complete a move to the Premier League in the coming weeks.
