According to recent reports, Manchester City defender Nicolas Otamendi is hoping for a move away from the club this summer, with a return to Spain on the player’s mind.

According to Super Deporte (via Sport Witness), Valencia are interested in a reunion with their former defender, however, there are ‘several complications’ to the potential deal.

One of these problems is stated as Manchester City’s asking price for the 32-year-old, which is reported to be between €8-10 million (£7.2-9 million), a price that is not easy’ for Valencia to pay.

In addition to this, the Argentine’s wages are also thought to be a problem for the Spanish side, and although Otamendi is said to be willing to take a pay cut, even a drop in his current earnings may still be hard for Valencia to reach.

However, Fiorentina are also said to be interested in the defender and while he would like his next move to be on an ‘emotional basis’ – i.e, returning to his former side – if Valencia cannot cough up the money for Otamendi, he could be on his way to Italy, as La Viola are reported to have already made a ‘firm proposal’ for the 32-year-old.

TIF Thoughts…

In his time at City, Otamendi has won two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and four League Cups, featuring in 210 games for the club, scoring 11 goals and providing four assists along the way.
