ESPN FC pundit and journalist Julien Laurens has been discussing the new Manchester City signing Ferran Torres.

The Premier League runners-up recently landed the 20-year-old Spaniard in a deal reportedly worth €23m (£20.87m) from the La Liga outfit Valencia and the winger is said to be the replacement for Leroy Sane who left the Manchester club last month (as per BBC Sport).

The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract with Pep Guardiola’s side and he is said to have “impressed” the club who have been following his “progress closely” according to the director of football Txiki Begiristain (via BBC Sport).

When asked to provide some background on Torres, here is what Laurens had to say on ESPN FC: “Great young player, very, very promising, loads of potential. One of the biggest talents in his generation, not just in Spain, but also in the whole of Europe and he was very coveted, mostly because of the price, [which] for someone like him with that kind of talent is an absolute bargain.”

“He’s probably a young David Silva in the sense that he plays wide but could also very quickly evolve into a second striker or a number ten.”

TIF Thoughts…

It’s clear that Laurens rates the player very highly and considering that his market value, according to Transfermarkt, currently stands at £40.5m it is difficult to argue against the journalist when he claims City have got themselves a bargain.

Torres played 34 times in La Liga last season, scoring four goals and providing five assists. His average performance rating of 6.72 according to WhoScored suggests he isn’t the finished article, however, he has clearly done enough to persuade the people of power at the Etihad Stadium.
