LFC Daytrippers contributor Sean Lawson has been discussing Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer during a conversation regarding whether or not Liverpool should move for the centre-back this summer.

According to Celtic Underground (via the Daily Star and Liverpool Echo), the Norwegian international is being looked at by the Premier League champions as they look to add another central defender following the sale of Dejan Lovren to Zenit St. Petersburg.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

Ajer has featured in all three of Celtic’s Scottish Premiership fixtures so far this season (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk) and it appears Lawson would be happy to see him join the Merseyside club.

He said: “Any time I’ve watched him he’s been very impressive, good on the ball, he’s dominant enough in the air, but like a young centre-half he does seem to have little lapses in his decision making.

“Look, he’s 22 years of age, this is something that can be definitely ironed out over time and something he’d improve [on] by training with the likes of [Virgil] Van Dijk every day.”

During the 2019/20 campaign, Ajer played a key role for Neil Lennon’s side as they clinched their ninth Scottish Premiership title in a row.

He made 28 league appearances and as well as contributing defensively to their success, the 22-year-old managed three goals and two assists (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

TIF Thoughts…

It’s clear from Lawson’s comments he doesn’t believe the defender is quite the finished article just yet, an opinion which the former Hoops striker Chris Sutton agrees with.

However, given the player’s value, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, is just £3.6m, we can assume he is somebody the Reds would be able to acquire for a reasonable fee and perhaps with the guidance of Virgil van Dijk, he could fulfil whatever potential he may have.
