Liverpool YouTuber Craig Houlden has been speaking about the current financial situation at the Merseyside club.

This comes after Houlden recently shared a video on his YouTube channel where he discussed a range of topics related to the Reds.

During the video, Houlden was asked if he thinks Liverpool are just being cautious with their money or if he believes that the club are in some real financial trouble, to which Holden shared his answer.

He said: “Like any other club, we do have to weigh the impact of the [pandemic] on the football landscape and we do have to wait and see.

“I think with the window running all the way through to October, we might see some late business for Liverpool in the window – that’s all I’m going to say. I don’t think that we’re in financial trouble, actually far from it. I think that we’re a very well-run club. We do have a rather high wage bill. We did spend a lot of money, I think around £30 million on agents fees from January 2019 to January 2020 and we renewed a lot of players’ contracts as well, so that did take up a whole heap of money.”

So far this summer, Liverpool sold Dejan Lovren to Zenit St. Petersburg for a fee of £10.9 million before they signed Olympiacos full-back Kostas Tsimikas for a reported fee of £11.7 million.

TIF Thoughts…

As Houlden mentioned in the video, Liverpool and other clubs will, in some way, have been impacted financially by the pandemic.

One example of this would be Liverpool’s original decision to place some of their non-playing staff on the government’s furlough scheme back in April. However, this decision was quickly reversed after the Merseyside club faced fierce backlash over the decision.

It will be interesting to see if the Reds make any more incoming transfers this summer and if they will have to rely on having some of their current players leave for a fee that could help them sign replacements in the coming weeks of the window.
