Liverpool journalist Errol Smith has been sharing his thoughts on Reds midfielder Marko Grujic and his future at the Merseyside club.
This comes after Smith recently made an appearance on The Redmen TV Podcast to talk through a number of news topics related to Jurgen Klopp’s side at the moment.
After it was recently reported that Grujic could be leaving Liverpool this summer with a potential move to Germany on the cards, Smith shared his thoughts on the matter.
He said: “I feel a little bit sorry for him because I think when Klopp first got him, he probably thought within two years, ‘you’ll be ready for the type of system that I’d be looking to play’, and ultimately that hasn’t happened. I think it’s fair to say he’s probably not progressed enough and I think the evolution of our team – and our midfield, especially – has evolved in such a way over the last 18 to 24 months that he wouldn’t fit into it any more. I don’t think he naturally slots into any of those three positions the way that they’re done.”
Grujic signed for the Reds back in the 2016 January transfer window from Red Star Belgrade for a fee of £6.3 million. During his time at the Merseyside club, the 24-year-old has spent time on loan at Cardiff City and Hertha Berlin, as well as his former side Red Star. Since becoming a Liverpool player, Grujic has managed to make a total of 14 appearances for the Reds’ first team since his arrival.

It would be a shame if Grujic left Liverpool this summer on a permanent basis after he only managed to make a handful of appearances for Klopp’s side.
On the other hand, it may be better for Grujic to leave the Reds and focus on finding a new club where he can settle down and play regularly.
