Speaking recently on the Football Writers Podcast, Darren Lewis claimed that Liverpool’s attempts to sign Norwich City left-back Jamal Lewis ‘might well be done’ sooner rather than later.

Since making his Norwich City debut back in 2017, Lewis has gone on to make 100 appearances for Daniel Farke’s side, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

Last season, the 22-year-old made 28 appearances in the Premier League, scoring one goal and averaging a WhoScored match rating of 6.46 – ranking him as the club’s joint-15th-best performer.

Despite these rather disappointing statistics, it has recently been reported that Liverpool are interested in the £9.90 million-rated defender, with Norwich rejecting a £10 million bid from the Merseyside club.

However, speaking on the Football Writers Podcast, Lewis claimed that he believed the deal would get done one way or another.

He said: “Andy Robertson only cost £8 million, Jamal Lewis would cost around about £10 million. I think Norwich’s eyes are widening and they see the opportunity maybe to chance their arm a bit, but I don’t think they’re going to get too much more than the figure that’s been mooted, given that the player would obviously jump at the chance to join the European and Premier League champions, so I think that deal might well be done.”

TIF Thoughts…

With it being reported that Norwich believe they are ‘not in a position where they have to sell’, as well as the fact that they have already turned down the initial £10 million offer for Lewis, it is our belief that the bid may well have to be slightly higher than the original in order to prise the left-back away from Norfolk.

Would you be happy to see Liverpool up their bid from £10 million for Jamal Lewis?

However, as Lewis states in the podcast, the opportunity to join the Premier League champions is not something Lewis is likely to want to miss out on, so we could well see the player trying to force a move away from the Canaries this summer.
