Liverpool fan and YouTuber Craig Houlden has been sharing his thoughts on what could ‘scupper’ a potential transfer move for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe.
This comes after Houlden recently released a video on his Liverpool-themed YouTube channel ‘Anfield Agenda‘ where he talked through a number of topics related to the Merseyside club.
Mbappe has recently revealed that he would be staying at PSG despite tentative links to the Premier League champions, though it appears some are holding out hope for the Reds signing the Frenchman next summer.
During the video, Houlden read out a comment from someone who suggested that Liverpool are being cautious with their spending during the current summer transfer window as they could be preparing for a mega-money move for Mbappe next year, to which Houlden shared his thoughts on the subject.
He said: “For me, it’s the wages that will always scupper any potential deal for Kylian Mbappe. Even if we could, let’s say, sell one of our front three to partially fund it, you’re talking about a lad there who I’m sure is probably on somewhere between £400k and £600k a week at Paris Saint-Germain.
“Now I’m just guessing, because I don’t know his actual wage, but he’s also the poster boy of French football, Paris Saint-Germain [are] obviously the poster club in France, so I’m sure it will take a lot to get him out of there, but would I like him at Liverpool? Yeah, of course, I would, Kylian Mbappe is an absolute superstar.”
Mbappe signed for PSG on a permanent basis back in 2018 in a deal worth £121.5 million from AS Monaco after he had spent the 2017/18 season on loan at the Parc des Princes (per Transfermarkt).
Overall, the 21-year-old, who is currently valued at £162 million, has made 121 appearances for PSG across all competitions in which he has managed to score 90 goals and provide 50 assists along the way.

With Mbappe currently being the most valuable football player in the world, it’s probably safe to assume that it would take a significant fee from Liverpool, or any other club, to take him away from PSG.
However, as Houlden mentioned in his video, as well as a huge transfer fee, it’s likely that Mbappe would demand massive wages too which could be an issue for Liverpool as a result of the financial impact that the global pandemic has had on Premier League clubs and the transfer market too.
