LFC Daytrippers contributor Sean Lawson has been discussing Rhian Brewster on a recent edition of the podcast.

Jurgen Klopp’s side took on Red Bull Salzburg in a friendly earlier this week, a game in which Brewster netted both of Liverpool’s goals and his display prompted a discussion with regards to whether or not the club should be looking to send him back out on loan.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

The 20-year-old joined Swansea City on loan back in January for whom he made 22 appearances, scoring an impressive 11 goals (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Lawson described the England Under-21 international as the “best natural finisher at the club” and urged Liverpool to keep hold of the young striker, here is what he had to say:

“I’d love him to stay, if you told me we’d sign a new attacker for £40m or Brewster stays, I’d pick Brewster first.

“It annoys me because people hold it against Brewster that he’s not in the same mould as [Mohamed] Salah or [Sadio] Mane and he’s not in the same mould as [Roberto] Firmino but, isn’t that a good thing? He’s probably the best natural finisher we have at the club.”

TIF Thoughts…

It’s clear that Lawson is a huge fan of Rhian Brewster and believes strongly in his ability, however, it remains to be seen whether or not he will be part of the first-team squad at Anfield next season.

The player’s average performance rating in the Championship last season was an impressive 7.00/10 (via WhoScored.com) which you could say supports the argument he should be given an opportunity to show Klopp what he can do – though he has only made three first-team appearances for Liverpool.

Divock Origi has been linked with a move away from Merseyside this summer (per The Mirror, via TEAMtalk), in which case, the Reds may be in the market for a back-up centre-forward to Roberto Firmino.

Although we feel he still has plenty to prove, we believe, the solution may already be in training at Melwood.
