Liverpool journalist Matt Addison has been sharing his thoughts on a potential transfer move from the Reds for Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, who he is a ‘big fan’ of.

This comes after Addison recently made an appearance on the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast to talk through all the latest news surrounding the Merseyside club.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

After it was recently reported by Mundo Deportivo (via TEAMtalk) that Liverpool have shown interest in Rudiger, Addison shared his thoughts on the potential move.

He said: “The more I think about it, the more I think it does actually make sense.

“I’ve always been a fairly big fan of Rudiger, and Chelsea fans have not been particularly impressed with him this season, but I think if you put him into the more solid and stable setup that Liverpool have, rather than the very attacking and open system that Chelsea play, I think, actually, Antonio Rudiger could be a decent option for Liverpool as long as, of course, the price is right.”

Rudiger signed for Chelsea back in the 2017 summer transfer window for a fee of £31.5 million. Since then, the defender has gone on to make a total of 115 appearances for the London club in which he has managed to score six goals and provide two assists along the way.

Rudiger’s 20 Premier League appearances for Chelsea throughout the 2019/20 campaign earned the German, who is currently valued at £36 million, a season rating of 6.77/10 (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

With Liverpool having sold Dejan Lovren to Zenit St.Petersburg earlier in the current transfer window, Rudiger could prove to be a useful addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad due to his Premier League experience having made a total of 80 appearances for Chelsea in the top-flight since his arrival in England.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool make an attempt to sign Rudiger this summer and whether or not the London club would be willing to sell the defender to the Reds.
