Liverpool journalist Josh Williams has been sharing his thoughts on how Reds striker Rhian Brewster could fit into Jurgen Klopp’s side next season.

This comes after Williams recently hosted an episode of Analysing Anfield from the Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red Podcast to talk about a variety of topics concerning the Merseyside club.

2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the subject of Brewster, who scored both of Liverpool’s goals in their pre-season 2-2 draw against Red Bull Salzburg earlier in the week, Williams had this to say on the centre-forward.

He said: “I think there’s a question mark attached to whether or not Brewster can play as a wide forward or not.

“Because if he can it’d bode a lot better for than if he has to play through the middle because if he has to play through the middle, Liverpool’s system changes because he doesn’t play like [Roberto] Firmino does.

“He’s not inclined to drift off as Firmino does to provide kind of like a glue in the final third sort of thing and I think Firmino is a 10, a natural 10. Brewster for me is a 9.

“It’s tricky, it depends [on] how Klopp’s perceiving him [and] how Klopp’s viewing him.”

Brewster joined the Liverpool youth system back in 2015 on a free transfer from the Chelsea youth system. After playing his way through the youth ranks at Liverpool, the striker made his senior debut for the Reds back in September 2019 in their 2-0 Carabao Cup win over MK Dons.

In the 2020 January transfer window, Brewster joined Championship side Swansea City on a loan deal until the end of the 2019/20 season. During his spell at Swansea, the 20-year-old managed to score 11 goals in 22 appearances for the Welsh side.

TIF Thoughts…

It’s good to see Brewster scoring goals for Liverpool in their pre-season matches ahead of the 2020/21 season.

This could put Brewster into a good position to start playing regularly for Liverpool next year, however, with Roberto Firmino playing a total of 52 appearances for the Reds last year across all competitions, it may be difficult for Brewster to dislodge the Brazilian from his place in the team next season.
