2018/19 season quiz: How many points did Jurgen Klopp's side accumulate in the Premier League?

On the topic of Sancho, who has been linked with a move to both Liverpool and Manchester United this summer, Addison shared his thoughts on the winger and any possible move for him in this summer transfer window.

He said: “It’s a player that we know Jurgen Klopp loves. He wanted him when he left Manchester City to go to Borussia Dortmund – if that hadn’t have been possible, I think Liverpool would have made their move there.

“The latest report suggests that a family member of Jadon Sancho’s reportedly said that Sancho himself would prefer a move to Liverpool over Manchester United. I mean, it’s a big claim. It does make sense, I suppose in the sense that Liverpool are in a better place than United at this moment in time, but at the same time, I’m sure that will beg the question, could he have waited 12 months if he was that desperate to come to Liverpool, maybe come to Liverpool next summer, rather than Old Trafford this [year]?

“But look, I suppose when you look at the fee, as I mentioned, it’s going to be a total of around about £120 million, whether that’s this summer or next, and I don’t think it really makes too much of a difference. I can’t see Liverpool spending that sort of fee on one player, as much as Jurgen Klopp likes him, and as much as he’s an excellent young player.”

It was recently reported that United had managed to agree personal terms with the winger with a five-year contract in the works to bring the player to Old Trafford this summer.

The 20-year-old, who is currently valued at £105.3 million (per Transfermarkt), signed to Dortmund from Manchester City back in 2017 for a fee of £7.05 million.

Since he arrived in Germany, Sancho has gone on to score 34 goals and provide 43 assists in 99 appearances for the club across all competitions (per Transfermarkt).

The 2019/20 Bundesliga season saw Sancho make 32 league appearances for the club, in which he managed to score 17 goals and provide 16 assists during the campaign.

The Englishman’s performances in those appearances earned him a season rating of 7.64/10, making him Dortmund’s highest-rated player for the 2019/20 Bundesliga season (per WhoScored).

TIF Thoughts…

It seems as though Liverpool are unlikely to be adding Sancho to their squad this summer due to the financial factors that a potential deal for the winger would present.

This makes sense as earlier on in the year, the Reds missed out on signing Timo Werner as the finances surrounding the deal were apparently too severe for the club.
