Many Leeds United supporters have flocked to Twitter in order to respond to a post from The Athletic’s Phil Hay in which he discusses the club’s interest in the Spanish striker Rodrigo.
Rodrigo, who currently plays his football for Valencia, joined the La Liga side back in 2015 from Benfica in a deal reportedly worth £27m (as per Transfermarkt). Last season, the forward made 27 appearances in the Spanish top flight, scoring four goals and providing his teammates with nine assists.
According to Hay, Los Murcelagos ‘intend to sell’ the player during this window and Leeds’ interest in his services ‘is clearly mounting’.
Here is how a sample of the Elland Road faithful have responded to the post.
Leeds’ interest in Rodrigo at Valencia is clearly mounting. Victor Orta speaking to his representatives and Valencia intend to sell him in this window. Depends on other interest too (talk that Atletico fancy him). Watkins at Brentford still an alternative option. #lufc

With us being in the prem it’ll force us to change the way we buy. Getting a Spanish international who was starting in the Champions League last year is a good way to start ? I trust Radz, Orta and Bielsa know what they’re doing here

Who would have thought #lufc in days of Hockaday and even in days of Heck. That just a couple of years later we would be competing for current Spanish international against Atletico Madrid. Shows how far Bielsa Radz and Orta have taken us

I really hope Leeds buy a prolific striker, otherwise Premiership will be very short lived. No mercy in the Premiership. The stacks of chances we missed in last season to be converted in to goals. We could have been 30 points clear.

These next few weeks are going to be insane ?

Which of these two strikers would you prefer to see the club sign?
Rodrigo
Watkins
Judging by the above responses it’s clear that many of these Leeds fans are excited by the fact they are being linked with somebody as high-profile as Rodrigo and that they are said to be going up against a club as big as Atletico Madrid in the bid for his signature. More supporters continued to make their feelings known in the replies.
Call me crazy but I’d prefer Watkins

Watkins would be the first choice for me tbh.. but bielsa must see something in rodrigo

It appears, however, that some supporters would prefer to see Marcelo Bielsa’s side move for Brentford’s Ollie Watkins. The 24-year-old scored an impressive 25 goals in 46 Championship appearances during the regular season for Thomas Frank’s side last term (as per Transfermarkt) and with Hay seemingly reaffirming that links between Leeds and the Bees striker are still alive, you can understand why these supporters are keen to see the former Exeter City forward move to Elland Road.
