Podcaster John Blain has recently discussed Everton’s Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson during a recent episode of Talking the Blues.

Since his £44.46m arrival from Swansea City in the summer of 2017, the 30-year-old midfielder has made 112 appearances for the Toffees (per Transfermarkt).

In those outings, Sigurdsson, who is valued at £16.2 million (as per Transfermarkt), has managed to score 23 goals and provide 15 assists for teammates.

Over the 2019/20 Premier League season, however, the former Tottenham Hotspur man provided just two goals and three assists in 35 outings (per Transfermarkt).

So, in the latest episode of the Talking the Blues podcast, Blain discussed the Icelandic midfielder.

To kick-off this quiz on Carlo Ancelotti on the side of easy, which side was his first game on the touchline at Goodison Park against?

He said: “I mean, Gylfi, if he’s still around [next season] because we can’t unload him, then he’s a real challenge because you’ve got an experienced player there, who you know has done it in the past.

“A brutally honest manager might say, ‘You’re history, mate. I’ll almost let you rot in the reserves than pick you.’

“Or – and this is why you’re defining a manager rather than the individual – [Carlo Ancelotti] has to play him because there’s no one else, and that’s a real bad place to be.

“So, [Jean-Philippe Gbamin] becomes key then, [Fabian] Delph hasn’t delivered for us yet because he’s been a bit of a ‘sicknote’, he would have made a difference because at least he’s consistent. He’s safe but he passes a ball straight.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what Blain had to say, he clearly believes that Ancelotti will have a difficult situation on his hands if the club cannot ship Sigurdsson out.

Do you think Everton will sell Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer?

No, I don't think we will

Yes, I think we will do

As of yet, there have been no recent rumours linking the Icelandic midfielder with a move away from the club (per Transfermarkt).

So, unless the Toffees are keeping a bid for Sigurdsson quiet, the situation which Blain discussed may come to fruition next season.
