The Athletic journalist Patrick Boyland has aired which positions Everton will be targeting in this summer’s transfer window.

Over the 2019/20 season, the Toffees signed reinforcements that play left-wing, striker, central midfield, right-back and goalkeeper (per Transfermarkt).

However, only one victory and three defeats in their final six games of the season highlighted the club’s need for more new blood this summer.

So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s Gwlad Tidings podcast, Boyland discussed where the Toffees will be looking to make signings this summer.

To kick-off this quiz on Carlo Ancelotti on the side of easy, which side was his first game on the touchline at Goodison Park against?

He said: “Everton do want a winger. I don’t think that’s a secret, Everton want a winger, they want a central midfielder, they want a left-sided centre-back.

“We’ve been reporting on [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg since May, saying that it was more likely he went to Tottenham, though. We’ve reported on Gabriel [Magalhaes] from a similar time and probably before, in truth.

“That was obviously close at one point. Now, not completely dead, I think he’s got to make a decision pretty soon on his future with clubs circling and it looks like he’ll leave Lille.

“They’re the priorities, given [Leighton] Baines and the situation over him [his retirement], you might need to dip into cover at left-back. Niels Nkounkou, who they signed from Marseille, has not made a senior professional appearance for a first team.

“So, he’s going to take time to progress. On the other side, Djibril Sidibe’s obviously gone back to Monaco after the expiration of his loan. Seamus Coleman’s getting on, what happens with Jonjoe Kenny [needs to be sorted]. So, there are issues for Everton to resolve.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, there are clearly a few areas in which the Toffees believe they need reinforcements this summer.

Which of the positions listed do Everton most need to sign a new player?

Right-wing

Centre-mid

Left-back

Judging from the fact that the Merseyside club only has one player capable of playing as a right-winger, Theo Walcott (per Transfermarkt), perhaps Ancelotti should treat that position as his number one priority.
