The Athletic’s Greg O’Keeffe has been discussing the future of Everton’s French left-back Lucas Digne.

Carlo Ancelotti’s outfit secured the services of the 27-year-old defender in the summer of 2018 after forking out £18m to secure his services from Barcelona (per BBC).

Since then, the left-back has made 76 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions in which he has bagged five goals and 13 assists (per Transfermarkt).

With Digne having been Everton’s second-best performing player in the Premier League in the 2019/20 season, O’Keeffe discussed him when making an appearance on the latest episode of the All Together Now Podcast.

To kick-off this quiz on Carlo Ancelotti on the side of easy, which side was his first game on the touchline at Goodison Park against?

He said: “You always wonder with Digne because he’s had so many clubs, and big clubs as well, and he’s come and done well here for a couple of seasons, if he’s – I don’t want to say a mercenary because that’s completely the wrong terminology –  it’s just he’s a professional footballer who is improving incrementally and trying to find his way into playing [for] a club that’s in Europe regularly.

“That said, I think they’ll hold on to them [Digne and Richarlison]. I think they’re determined to do that for Ancelotti, I think [Farhad] Moshiri knows he needs to do that.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what the journalist had to say, while he believes that Digne is aspiring to play for a club “that’s in Europe regularly”, he does not think that he will leave this summer.

If a £35m offer arrived for Lucas Digne, would you want it accepted?

No, he's worth far more

With Everton down to having just one senior left-back in their squad following Leighton Baines’ retirement, if the Frenchman were to leave the Toffees, they would be left with just Niels Nkounkou at left-back, who has never made a senior appearance.

So, that possibly presents another reason why Everton would be keen to keep hold of the former Paris Saint-Germain defender for the time being.
