One such deal is Everton’s move for Lille right-back Zeki Celik.

Castles revealed what he thinks of Celik and that the Toffees face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the Turkish international – but that they could sign him ahead of their league rivals.

“With Zeki Celik, again, I think Everton have identified a serious talent there, Celik has been at Lille for two seasons now, he’s a full Turkey international. [He’s] very good in defensive duels at right-back, a strong provider of crosses, [a] disciplined player who doesn’t pick up many red cards.

“You can understand why top Premier League clubs and other clubs are thinking this is a player to pick off.

“If Everton are quick, and the information I have is that they have already proposed a fee of €15m to Lille for Celik, they can probably get him ahead of Tottenham.”

So, it looks like if Everton can act swiftly, they will be able to get a player who Castles clearly rates.

TIF Thoughts…

Celik had a decent season for Lille with a 6.73 average rating in the league, which would have put him in ninth place in Everton’s squad and just behind Djibril Sidibe for the Toffees’ right-backs from the 2019/20 season.

The fact that Spurs are also interested might speed up Everton’s move for the Turk, and it is clear that Castles is a fan of him. (37:15)

The Toffees have supposedly made a bid of €15m (£13.58m) (40:10), but with Lille wanting €20m (£18.10m), it will be interesting to see if a compromise can be reached that will see the 23-year-old move to Goodison Park.
