Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly told Everton chiefs to blow Manchester United ‘out of the water’ to ensure that the Toffees have the best chance of signing Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes this summer.

According to Football Insider, the Italian manager has told Everton chiefs to ‘pull out all the stops’ to sign the Brazilian ahead of next season. The report suggests that while the 22-year-old is the Merseysiders’ number-one target in the summer transfer window, there is also interest from Manchester United – but Ancelotti is keen outdo Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side when it comes to transfer negotiations.

Football Insider also suggests that the Toffees have offered £20 million for the centre-back, but the Ligue 1 side are holding out for £30 million for the youngster, who is currently valued at £18 million by Transfermarkt.

TIF Thoughts…

In the most recent Ligue 1 season, Magalhaes made 24 appearances in the French top flight, averaging a strong 6.93/10 rating (per WhoScored). This was enough to see him rated as Les Dogues’ fourth-best player across the season, so you can certainly understand the interest being shown in him by both Everton and Manchester United.

Who do you think is more likely to sign Magalhaes this summer?

When we compare the Brazilian’s statistics to those in the Everton squad, a 6.93 rating would have seen him rated as the Toffees’ third-best player across the Premier League season, behind only Richarlison and Lucas Digne (per WhoScored). Ancelotti’s side managed just nine clean sheets in the top flight last season, so you can certainly argue that their defence could be improved; perhaps we will see them complete a move for Magalhaes this summer.
