Crystal Palace are interested in signing the Southampton midfielder Harrison Reed this summer – that’s according to The Sun (9 August, page 67).

The 25-year-old midfielder spent last season on loan at Fulham in the Championship for whom he made a total of 28 appearances. The Cottagers earned promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs but it seems they now face competition for Reed’s signature from their London rivals.

According to WhoScored.com, the player’s average performance rating in the second tier last season was a respectable 6.73/10 and it seems his displays appear to have put him on Crystal Palace’s radar too.

The Telegraph says that Fulham can sign Reed in an £8m deal having successfully overcome Brentford at Wembley but this additional interest in the player could spark a bidding war between the two clubs.

TIF Thoughts…

Some of Reed’s strengths include his ability to pass well, take set-pieces, cross, intercept the ball and defend well (as per WhoScored.com). He is capable of playing in both a central-midfield role and a slightly more defensive one and according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, despite the £8m price tag set by his parent club, he is valued at £2.16m.

It is not yet known whether or not Crystal Palace’s reported interest will materialise into a concrete bid, however, if they were to sign this all-round midfielder for something around The Telegraph’s quoted price, we believe it would represent a good bit of business.

It was reported not so long ago that the club’s hierarchy and Roy Hodgson were in disagreement with regards to what should be the club’s recruitment strategy this summer and the fans will no doubt be hoping that issue is resolved sooner than later so they can prepare for another campaign in the top-flight.
