Alex Stewart discussed Crystal Palace and the areas in which he feels that they should consider strengthening this summer during a recent edition of Tifo Football’s Sensible Transfers show

One of the positions he and the panel identified as an area in which the Eagles may be looking to strengthen during this transfer window is at centre-forward. Jordan Ayew was the club’s top goalscorer last season, scoring nine in 39 appearances in all competitions (as per Transfermarkt).

Wilfried Zaha was Roy Hodgson’s second top goalscorer with just four and Christian Benteke, a centre-forward by trade, only managed to hit the net on two occasions (as per Transfermarkt). Therefore, it can certainly be argued that the Eagles need to add more firepower to their current squad.

Stewart suggested the Bordeaux striker Josh Maja would be a good option for the south London club, here is what he had to say:

“Josh Maja, who’s now at Bordeaux. Maja was Sunderland’s best player in the first series that was covered by that documentary [Sunderland ‘Til I Die].

“And [he] engineered a move to Bordeaux where he’s really played very, very well. He’s scoring half a goal per shot on target. He’s an efficient striker, he’s a good technical striker, he’s very quick and he can play in the wide positions.”

TIF Thoughts…

The Nigerian international joined the French outfit from Sunderland in 2019 for a reported £1.53m (via Transfermarkt).

Now valued at £5.67m, Maja started his career with Manchester City and moved to the North-East in July 2015. The striker went on to score 17 goals in 49 senior appearances for the Black Cats before swapping Sunderland for the famed wine-growing region in France.

In Ligue 1, he’s made 28 appearances, contributing seven goals and two assists to date (via Transfermarkt). Based on all of the above, we believe that signing Maja could represent a smart piece of business for the Premier League outfit.
