Aston Villa podcaster Dan Wiseman has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the Birmingham club making a summer transfer move for Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier.

This comes after Wiseman recently appeared on an episode of The Villa Filler Podcast from a Villa-themed YouTube channel called Heart of The Holte where he spoke about a range of transfer-related topics surrounding Dean Smith’s side at the moment.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

After it was recently reported that Trippier is ‘on their radar’ as an option to strengthen Villa’s defence this summer, Wiseman shared his thoughts on this potential move.

He said: “It’s been a bit of a weird season for Atletico, [Diego] Simeone’s time looks like it may be nearing the end, but no, you’re right, [Trippier] looks really happy and for him to leave after just one season at the age of 29, I’m sure he’s loving living in Spain, he’s 30-plus, I’m sure he’d rather be living in Spain than in Birmingham.

“It would be a bit of a weird transfer, to say the least, but we’ve seen them happen, you know, we’ve got the money and if they are going into a transition period Atletico Madrid and he fancies a return to England then I don’t know. I’d love to see it happen, but as you said, it’d be a weird one to see completed.”

Trippier joined the Spanish club back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of £19.8 million.

During his debut season in Spain, the Englishman made 33 appearances for Atletico across all competitions in which he managed to provide five assists throughout the 2019/20 season.

TIF Thoughts…

With it being reported that Villa would target Trippier as someone who could strengthen their defence, the player has shown during his time in Spain that he is a threat going forward too with his assists.

If Villa are genuinely interested in signing Trippier this summer, it would be interesting to see if the right-back would be open to moving back to the Premier League or whether he would be happy to remain in Spain for the time being.
