Aston Villa journalist James Rushton has made a transfer claim regarding Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard.

This comes after Rushton recently made an appearance on a transfer themed episode of the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast to go through a range of players that have been mentioned with a move to Villa this summer.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

On the topic of Edouard, Rushton had this to say on the forward.

He said: “He was fourth last year for assists alone if you’re ignoring goals, and he was first in goals, so he’s an all-rounder, he can do a lot of things.

“Edouard is definitely on Villa’s radar but whether they actually move for him, it’s hard to say.”

Edouard signed to Celtic on a permanent basis back in 2018 from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of £9.27 million after he spent the previous year on loan at the Scottish club.

Overall, the 22-year-old, who is currently valued at £13.5 million, has made a total of 127 appearances for Celtic in which he has scored 63 goals and provided 31 assists along the way.

The 2019/20 season saw the Frenchman make 27 appearances for Neil Lennon’s side in the SPFL, scoring 21 goals and providing 12 assists during the campaign.

TIF Thoughts…

With Villa only having scored 41 goals throughout their 2019/20 Premier League campaign, Edouard could be a useful addition to their squad for next season and boost their attacking line because of his excellent goalscoring record for Celtic.

However, with Villa currently having Wesley, Scott Hogan, Keinan Davis and Mbwana Samatta in their squad that can all play in the centre-forward position, there may need to be some changes to the squad if they were to bring Edouard in.
