Aston Villa journalist James Rushton has made a transfer claim on Watford winger Gerard Deulofeu.
This comes after Rushton made an appearance on a special transfer-themed edition of the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast to talk through a list of players that have been mentioned in regards to a potential move to Villa this summer.
One name that popped up was Deulofeu, to which Rushton shared his thoughts on a possible move for the Spaniard.
He said: “I feel like his price point would probably fall perfectly for Aston Villa, so if there’s interest, they should absolutely go for him.”
Deulofeu signed to Watford on a permanent basis back in the 2018 summer transfer window for a fee of £11.8 million from Barcelona after he originally joined the Hornets on loan in January 2018.
Overall, the winger has made a total of 70 appearances for Watford in which he has managed to score 17 goals and provide 11 assists along the way (per Transfermarkt).
Watford’s 2019/20 Premier League campaign saw the 26-year-old make a total of 28 league appearances for the club, scoring four goals and providing five assists for his teammates.
Deulofeu’s performances in those appearances earned him a season rating of 6.9/10, making him Watford’s third-highest rated player for the previous campaign.

With Watford losing their place in the Premier League for next season, the club could potentially let go of Deulofeu, who is currently valued at £18 million, so they can raise some funds for the club as they prepare for next season in the Championship.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Villa will make a move for Deulofeu in the coming weeks to get him back into the Premier League for another season.
