Aston Villa journalist Danny Raza has suggested that a potential transfer move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Ryan Sessegnon would be ‘amazing business’ from the club.

This comes after Raza recently made an appearance on Villa-themed podcast Holtecast to talk through a range of potential transfers that Dean Smith’s team could make this summer.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

On the topic of which players he would like to see make the move to Villa Park this summer, Raza picked Sessegnon as one of his choices.

He said: “I’d like us to bring in Ryan Sessegnon because he just hasn’t really had the chance at Tottenham and a player like that, who tore the Championship apart at such a young age, if Villa can get him in on loan with an option to buy, I feel like that would be amazing business.”

Jose Mourinho’s side purchased the Englishman back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Fulham for a fee of £24.3 million.

Since then, the 20-year-old, who is currently valued at £22.5 million, has made just 12 appearances for Spurs across all competitions in which he scored one goal and provided one assist.

Six of Sessegnon’s 12 appearances for Spurs last season came in the Premier League, three came in the Champions League and the other three came in the FA Cup (per Transfermarkt).

Sessegnon’s performances in the six league appearances he made for Spurs last year earned him a disappointing season rating of 6.32/10, according to WhoScored.

TIF Thoughts…

It’s safe to say that Sessegnon didn’t have the best first season at Tottenham last year. Now that the 2019/20 season is over, it will be interesting to see if Spurs would be willing to allow the player to leave the club either on a loan deal or on a permanent basis due to his poor first season at the club.

If Raza thinks that the possibility of Villa getting Sessegnon in their ranks for next season would be an amazing bit of business from the Birmingham club, this shows that he has a lot of faith in Sessegnon that he could perform at Villa to a higher level than he did last season at Spurs.
