Aston Villa journalist Gregg Evans has made a claim on Villa midfielder Henri Lansbury.

This comes after Evans recently made an appearance on The Athletic’s Villa-themed podcast 1874 to talk about the latest goings-on at the club.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

On the topic of which current Villa players could be in danger of being moved on by the club this summer, Evans picked Lansbury as one of those players.

He said: “He’s not doing anything for Villa, he hasn’t for some time, he’s probably one that needs to move on.”

The 29-year-old signed to Villa back in the 2017 January transfer window from Nottingham Forest for a fee of £3.06 million.

Since he arrived at Villa Park, Lansbury has gone on to make 50 appearances for the club in which he has scored two goals and provided eight assists in a Villa shirt.

The 2019/20 season saw the midfielder, who is currently valued at £1.08 million, make just 15 appearances for the club with 10 coming in the Premier League, four in the Carabao Cup and one in the FA Cup (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

Given how Lansbury has only made 15 appearances for Villa across all competitions throughout the 2019/20 season, Evans may be right in saying that now may be the time for Lansbury to move on from Villa as he clearly isn’t a regular figure in Dean Smith’s side.

It will be interesting to see if Lansbury does leave Villa this summer and if he will end up at a club where he would get some regular playing time instead of being a fringe player at Villa Park.
