The Athletic’s Gregg Evans has been discussing Wes Edens’ and Nassef Sawiris’ co-ownership of Premier League outfit Aston Villa.

The duo took over the club during the summer of 2018 and Villa’s former owner Dr Tony Xia became a co-chairman.

At the time of their arrival, Edens and Sawiris promised “significant investment” into the Villans, as the club was promoted into the Premier League in the following season.

In a recent Aston Villa special of the Tifo Football Podcast, Evans made a guest appearance and discussed the current ownership of the Villa Park outfit.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

He said: “The message I consistently hear from management staff at Villa is that the club are in incredibly safe hands.

“I was asking the question just before the final few games of the season: what happens if Villa get relegated? Because at that point, it was a serious concern and Dean Smith’s reply simply was that the club are in safe hands, there’s no need to worry about the short-term future of the club because our owners are ambitious, they’re very, very wealthy – two billionaires – and they’ll see us through.

“I think now, Villa fans should not just fear for the future because of the financial crisis that’s gripping the world at the moment and may continue to get even worse in the future, but I actually think that Villa fans should be very excited because these two co-owners want to invest in the club.

“They want to push the club into the higher echelons of the Premier League and they’re prepared to spend the money. So, if you’re a fan, I think that’s great to hear and something you can get really excited about.”

TIF Thoughts…

As can be seen in what The Athletic journalist had to say, he clearly believes that the Villa Park faithful have plenty of cause to be optimistic about the future of their club.

Do you believe that Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are good owners?

Yes, I really like them

No, I wish they'd sell

No, I wish they'd sell

With the Villans having plunged £143.19m into incoming transfers during the 2019/20 season (per Transfermarkt), it is certainly clear to see that the owners are willing to invest.

As Evans states, that would suggest that Aston Villa fans have plenty of reason to be excited about what the future holds.
