Aston Villa journalist Dan Bardell has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the club making a transfer move for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham this summer.

This comes as Bardell recently made an appearance on a special transfer-themed episode of The Villa View to discuss a number of potential transfers Dean Smith’s side could make during the current summer window.

In this 2019/20 season quiz, do you remember who scored Villa's first PL goal of the season?

After Villa captain Jack Grealish shared a photograph on his official Instagram story of himself on holiday with Abraham with the caption ‘#secretagent’ on the image, Bardell shared his thoughts on the possibility of Villa signing the striker this summer.

He said: “Personally, I think Tammy will stay at Chelsea. You’ve got to at least be trying to make a move for those kinds of players, the kinds of players that would appease Jack. I think the club do lean on Jack and source his opinion on quite a lot of playing issues and transfer issues, to be fair.

“He’s a massive, massive influence at Aston Villa, Jack, and to be fair, if he goes elsewhere, he won’t get that. I think he gets a fairly big say at Villa from what I understand, so they’ll come to him and garner his opinion.

“If Jack does stay, Villa stand a chance of getting Tammy, I would say, but if he goes, absolutely zero chance we manage to get someone like Tammy Abraham through the door. It just won’t happen, but I think you’ve got to at least show some ambition.”

Abraham spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Villa Park from Chelsea, in which he made a total of 40 appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals and providing three assists throughout the season.

The 2019/20 season at Stamford Bridge saw Abraham, who is currently valued at £36 million, make 47 appearances for Frank Lampard’s side across all competitions, in which he racked up 18 goals and six assists (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts…

It will be interesting to see if Villa decide to make a move to bring Abraham back to Villa Park on a permanent basis this time around, and whether or not Chelsea would be willing to let him leave.

But, it’s clear to see that Bardell only believes that a return for Abraham will be possible if Jack Grealish stays.
