Former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson has been discussing the future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on ESPN FC following the weekend’s FA Cup final.

Mikel Arteta’s side came from behind to defeat Chelsea 2-1 at Wembley after Christian Pulisic put the Blues ahead within just five minutes. Aubameyang levelled the score from the penalty spot just shy of the half-hour mark after he was brought down by Cesar Azpilicueta and sealed the victory with a wonderful finish in the second half on his weaker left foot (as per BBC Sport).

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

That was the club’s 14th FA Cup triumph with their last also coming at the expense of Chelsea back in 2017. The Gabonese striker wasn’t at the club then, but he has since established himself as the team’s star man, scoring 70 goals in 109 appearances since his arrival in January 2018.

The player’s current Arsenal contract is due to expire at the end of next season and following the weekend’s result, Robson was positive about the north London club’s chances of holding on to their talisman. He said: “I think there is every possibility he will stay at Arsenal because he’s enjoying his time at Arsenal at the moment. He’s playing well, he’s scoring goals and he’s won the FA Cup for Arsenal. At the moment, he is enjoying football, he is enjoying life – why not stay at a club where you’re enjoying it?”

TIF Thoughts…

Aubameyang is yet to commit his longer-term future to the Gunners. However, we believe that winning the FA Cup and subsequently qualifying for next season’s UEFA Europa League may have an impact on his decision.

Arteta has spoken about the importance of the club generating the extra revenue that European football brings in order to continue the rebuild under the Spaniard and it may mean the club are now able to meet the player’s financial needs.
