James McNicholas of The Athletic has been discussing Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette’s value in the current transfer market during a recent episode of Arsecast Extra.

According to recent reports, the Gunners could be looking to sell the Frenchman if and when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signs a new contract with the club.

Lacazette arrived at the Emirates Stadium back in the summer of 2017 from Lyon in a deal reportedly worth £47.7m (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

Can you score 20/20 on this Premier League quiz? Starting off easy, who is the top scorer in the Premier League this season?

During his time in north London, he has made 127 appearances for the club, scoring on 48 occasions and providing 25 assists (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

During the podcast, McNicholas was asked his thoughts on whether or not Arsenal should be looking to move the player on this summer and what they might hope to get for him in the current market, he had this to say on the 29-year-old:

“My hunch is his best use is as a bargaining chip, because I feel like you could get away with saying ‘we’re actually including Lacazette in this swap deal and we value him at £30m’ more than you would get away with someone turning up with £30m cash for him.”

TIF Thoughts…

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, the player is currently valued at £43.2m, which is significantly more than the figure quoted by McNicholas.

However, given the likely financial impact on this summer’s market caused by the recent viral outbreak, we believe the journalist’s interesting theory holds some weight.

Arsenal have reportedly identified Thomas Partey as one of their priority transfer targets this summer, and perhaps offering Lacazette as part of the deal may help the Gunners get a transfer over the line whilst getting as much value as they can out of the Frenchman’s potential exit.
