Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano recently appeared on an episode of The Beautiful Game podcast to discuss some of the biggest transfer rumours from this summer.

One topic of conversation on the recent episode was Arsenal’s reported interest in Willian. The 31-year-old is set to be out of contract with Chelsea, and is said to be considering an offer from Mikel Arteta’s side, having reportedly rejected an offer of an extension from the Stamford Bridge outfit (per The Guardian).

Here’s what Romano had to say about the Gunners’ chances of signing the former Shakhtar Donetsk winger this summer:

“At the moment, what I’m told is that Arsenal are concentrating on the Willian deal. They are speaking with Willian because he is a free agent, so they can sign him immediately and he refused the last bid from Chelsea to extend his contract, so they are concentrating on Willian [at the] moment.”

TIF Thoughts…

Other reports have suggested that an Arsenal deal for Willian is close, and from what Romano has to say, the North London club are fully focused on getting his signing over the line as soon as possible. The Brazilian international was in superb form for Frank Lampard’s side in the most recent Premier League season; contributing nine goals and seven assists in 36 top-flight appearances, averaging an impressive 7.31 rating (per WhoScored).
