Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, has been discussing the possibility of Chelsea winger Willian joining the Gunners this summer during a recent video on his YouTube channel

Sky Sports reported earlier this week that Mikel Arteta’s side had made the Brazilian a formal three-year contract offer, putting them at the front of the queue to sign the former Shakhtar Donetsk man who will become a free agent at the end of this month.

Watts provided an update on the negotiations to his followers and had this to say: “This is one that looks like it’s happening fairly quickly. Obviously, Chelsea are in action in the Champions League on Saturday [in] their second leg against Bayern – it’s going to take a miracle to go through.

“I’m expecting something to happen very quickly after that match once Chelsea are out of the Champions League. It looks like [a] three-year contract is going to get done with Arsenal.”

TIF Thoughts…

Willian is due to turn 32 later this month, but despite his age, he has been Chelsea’s best performer in the Premier League this season with an average rating of 7.31/10 according to WhoScored.com.

Do you think Arsenal are right to give Willian a three-year contract?

Yes

Yes

No

No

In 36 league appearances, the winger has produced nine goals and seven assists, highlighting that he is still an impactful player at the top level and he would add further quality to Arteta’s side with his ‘very strong’ ability to deliver accurate set-pieces.

Although predominantly a right-winger, the Brazil international has proven himself capable of operating from either flank or a central attacking midfield position, therefore, offering his prospective new coach plenty of tactical flexibility.

In our opinion, if Arsenal are able to land Willian on a free transfer, it could represent a very good piece of business.
