Andrew Mangan, the host of the Arsecast Extra has been discussing the reports linking Arsenal with a move for Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar this summer during a recent edition of the podcast.

It’s been reported that the Gunners have ended their pursuit of the Ghanaian midfielder (as per Sport via Team Talk) but according to Charles Watts, the Arsenal correspondent for Goal, the North London club are still considering a move for the Lyon midfielder Aouar, although it may be a ‘difficult’ deal for them to get done.

It appears Mangan, however, would prefer to see Mikel Arteta’s side move for Aouar over Partey anyway. Here is what he had to say during the show: “I would prefer an Aouar [type] player than Partey just in terms of what they can deliver on the ball but I think there is room for both, to be honest. The midfield is the key area, the focus now has to turn to the middle of the park.”

TIF Thoughts…

The podcaster has revealed his preference, but perhaps, more importantly, he has highlighted that in his view, regardless of whether any of those two end up signing for the North London club the midfield is an area in which the Gunners must strengthen.

Which of these two would you prefer to see Arsenal sign this summer?

The club are yet to agree a deal with Real Madrid that would see Dani Ceballos return to the Emirates Stadium next season, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi are both being linked with a move away and therefore Arsenal could find themselves short in the middle of the park unless they recruit this summer.

So adding more players in that part of the pitch might make sense and perhaps that is why Arteta’s men should make a move to sign Aouar this summer.
