Co-host of the Talking Shutt Podcast ‘Wraggy’ has been discussing the reports continuing to link Leeds United with a move for Wigan Athletic’s Joe Gelhardt.

According to Leeds Live, ‘the teenager is considered one of Wigan’s brightest prospects’ however it appears there is also interest from the Scottish Premiership side Rangers and Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton.

Starting with an easy one how many points did Leeds end the season with?

During a recent edition of the podcast, ‘Wraggy’, as he is known, was asked to share his thoughts on the player and whether or not signing the centre-forward would represent good business for the Yorkshire club.

He said: “Really direct, good with the ball. Can ride a tackle as well, which is obviously going to be quite important taking that step up. A really exciting kind of player. If he’s been shepherded away from a Championship relegation battle, he’s probably not ready for the Premier League right now.

“Obviously, that sort of money [approximately £1m] for a potential future England international is a great bit of business.”

TIF Thoughts…

As recently as last month, a report from Football Insider claimed that Wigan had told Celtic, who were also reportedly interested that they would need to cough up £5m to sign the 18-year-old.

Gelhardt made 18 appearances in the Championship last season and scored once, in the game at Hull City back in September (as per Transfermarkt.co.uk).

An England U18 international, it is clear from the podcaster’s comments that he believes the player could potentially go on to represent the senior side someday, in which case, if they could land him for the aforementioned price, it would indeed feel like excellent business.
