Speaking recently on The Extra Ball podcast, Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear discussed the possible expansion of Elland Road.

Back in April, LeedsLive reported that Kinnear stated that, should Leeds go on to achieve promotion to the Premier League by the end of the 2019/20 season, the club would look into the expansion of Elland Road, with a potential new capacity of 50,000.

Starting with an easy one how many points did Leeds end the season with?

With the players holding up their end of the bargain, winning the Championship by 10 clear points, Kinnear revisited the subject of the stadium expansion while speaking on The Extra Ball podcast, suggesting that the club “should have a bigger stadium”.

He said: “It feels like how it should be – Arsenal have got a waiting list [for season tickets], West Ham have got a waiting list – it feels like we should have a bigger stadium, the stadium should be at 50,000 [capacity]. That is now a further part of our plans.

“I think what’s also great is you have the hardcore fanbase, but it is also great for the city as well – to walk through the city and people to feel proud about what’s happened and what they’re part of. The way the club was run historically was almost a source of embarrassment for people who perhaps weren’t fans, but just didn’t have the club that the city deserved.”

TIF Thoughts…

As a Leeds fan, it must be extremely pleasing to hear someone as high up in the football club as Kinnear talking with such passion about the team, as well as the fact that he all but confirms that an expansion of Elland Road is in the club’s plans going forward, only adding to the excitement of being a Leeds fan at present.
