Fans of Leeds United have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays the news that Jarred Gillett has been appointed as the referee for the club’s upcoming fixture against Barnsley.
Since arriving in England from the Australian A-League last year, Gillett has overseen 23 Championship fixtures, dishing out 86 yellow cards, two red cards and awarding three penalties.
He has been involved in a match with Leeds just once this term, in what was a 1-0 victory over Reading back in February, with Luke Ayling being the only Leeds player to receive a caution that day out of three given during the match in total.
After the news of Gillett’s appointment for the Barnsley fixture was shared on Twitter by Jo Bedford, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with many heaping praise on the Australian’s performance as referee in their fixture against Reading.

Given it appears that these Leeds fans feel very positively towards Gillett, the argument could be made that, should the club leave their fixture against Barnsley will all three points, as well as Gillett putting in a decent performance, their love for the Australian could reach new heights.

This is because, should Brentford lose or draw their fixture with Preston North End this Wednesday, the table-toppers would then be presented with the opportunity of securing promotion to the Premier League by bettering the Bees’ result when they take on Barnsley the following day.

As such, it would appear that Gillett looks sets to play a part in what could be a historic fixture for Leeds United, and it would seem that fans of the club are delighted about this fact.
